Exhibition GAO March 2010
My recent works focus on my overriding interest with abstractions, with occasional hints of imagery, tracing my continued interest in the mystical. Despite my ostensibly conservative values, these works for me were joyously liberating capturing luminosities, hybrid animal forms, limbs receding into arches leading into the higher states, the unknown.
The paintings are executed in a reduced palette of varied grays, blacks, greens, ochre, ancient reds, while some of the panels, contrast in bleached out white, creams and ivory. The drawn imagery in graphite and charcoal is faintly discernable as it devolves into traces of brush strokes and knife scrapings that completely cover the surface in a dense layering of pigments. There is a feeling of an attempt to communicate through the use of calligraphy. Since the works come from the subconscious, there is an element of mystery as all is not revealed.
